Traditional Gazebos have three common features; they are octagon in shape, second they are open on all sides and thirdly they are made from wood. As most gazebos are built in gardens parks and wooded paths that is why wood has been used in the construction. This makes them blend in with the landscape. Gazebos are built to provide a temporary shelter and are built such that they blend in with their surroundings.
Wooden gazebos provide a warm and friendly look and no one can pass by a gazebo without stopping for a while in them. Whether it is to admire the view, take shelter from the sun or rain or just to rest awhile. Whereas metal or brick and mortar gazebos would look out of place in a park or a forest path a wooden gazebo fits into any surrounding.
One could be drawn into constructing a gazebo in the garden. First of all one must choose a location for the gazebo. Then would be the size of the gazebo and lastly how does one go about constructing a gazebo. Before one orders away for plans one needs to decide the shape of the gazebo. As in all likely hoods the gazebo is going to be built in a central location the choice would be to construct an octagon shaped gazebo. So that the maximum sides are open to admire the surroundings. However a word of caution would be in order; a square or rectangular shape is easier to build then any other shape and especially if one is working with wood. If a kit has been ordered then it may be simple but sawing, hammering based on a plan can have things going drastically wrong.
Once the shape and size of the wooden gazebo has been decided the next step is to get the plans for it. Plans can be ordered from wooden gazebo manufacturers or from other suppliers. The height of the gazebo is also important as the gazebo should blend in with the atmosphere of the place. Once one gets the plans ensure that they are complete. Study the plans in minute detail as during the construction phase one does not want things going wrong. Now there are kits also available for building wooden gazebos and if a kit has been ordered then take all the parts and compare them with the building plan to make sure that nothing is missing.
If one is constructing off plans then having studied the plans, selected the wood and the size of posts, planks, etc that are required one would need to visit a lumber store and get all the necessary material. The first piece to be constructed would be the base which can be a wooden floor or a cement floor. If the floor is wooden then first the base of the floor will be constructed then the side pillars and railing and then the frame for the roof. The roof can be a single tier or dual layer cupola shaped roof and got be shingle, canopy or tile. It all depends on the builder’s choice. A dual tier roof is a main slanted roof with an opening in the center with a second roof covering this opening. The purpose of having a dual tier roof is that the heat generated in the gazebo will escape through the central chimney and cool air will be drawn in from the sides.
A wooden gazebo can also be constructed on a patio and it becomes a private haven to relax in whilst surrounded by nature. A 10 by 10 size gazebo is such that it is not cramped and neither too large. A wooden gazebo may also have screens which could either be fixed or ones that can be drawn like curtains. It all depends on where the gazebo is constructed and what does one want the screens for.
