If one is inclined to construct their own greenhouse before one orders a plan or a kit there are certain factors that should be considered. First of all, is this going to be a permanent structure or a temporary one, is it going to be a commercial greenhouse or just a hobbyist greenhouse. A greenhouse can be a simple greenhouse in which one has to open the vents, run the humidifier, heaters, etc manually. On the other hand it could be totally computerized. All depends on what one wants to get and at what cost. Once one knows what type of a greenhouse one wants to construct the next step would be to get someone to draw up the plans for it. Or on the other hand one can order the plans.
Greenhouse plans are available on the net and one can order them from there. There are a number of plans and kits that are available and one may have to pay for them. Some organizations and gardeners who have constructed their own greenhouses distribute the plans for free. Of course there is any number of free greenhouse plans that one wants available on the Internet. They can be just simple plans with the dimensions or they could be detailed with specifications of the material to be used and the complete construction instructions. However if one is looking for detailed plans that include construction details then these plans have to be purchased.
Once one has decided the size and the type of greenhouse that one wants to construct the second step is to choose the material in which one wants it constructed in. Again the choice ranges from wood to plastic to aluminum and each of them have their advantages and disadvantages. Even after one has got the plans it would be wise to study them carefully and access that you know exactly what is required to construct the greenhouse.
One can get free plans for virtually any type of greenhouse that one wants to construct. Free plans for PVC greenhouses are also easily available. However a point to remember is that PVC piping is tubular so if one should go for PVC greenhouses do follow the plans exactly and make sure that all the required parts (pipes, joints, etc) have been procured before starting assembly. Also PVC does not have the strength of wood or iron; therefore do not plan to build anything fancy or cumbersome. The best solution would be to build a hanger shaped greenhouse with PVC tubing.
Free plans for solar greenhouses are also available and again a word of caution here. The plans that one gets may not be suitable for the climate where one is going to construct the greenhouse. Or should one be planning of moving to a different climatic region and un-assembling the greenhouse and then reassembling it there one might realize that the greenhouse may not suit the new environment. For example the further north one is the greater would be the angle of the roof so that maximum sunlight is captured. This slope decreases the further south one moves. So do be sure that you get the correct plans even if they are free.
Having got the free plans for a greenhouse the next thing that would be required is shelves for the green house. Here again one can get easy to assemble shelves or plans to construct them. Free plans for shelves can be had for a variety of material. Of course the recommended shelves should be of wood. Wood gives a greenhouse a warm and environment friendly look. One could have shelves for the plants or benches. Or a combination of both it all really depends on the requirements.
Do remember that where as the plans for constructing the greenhouse may be free but everything else is going to cost. So one should know what one is getting into so that the effort is not wasted.
