One can purchase and can install a gazebo but for the do it yourself type of people getting someone else to come and put together a simple structure like a gazebo would be tantamount to an insult. To self construct a gazebo one has to decide what type of a gazebo one wants to build. It could be a simple straight forward gazebo or a gazebo with a hot tub or Jacuzzi.
A do it yourself or DIY built gazebo can be a simple gazebo, a gazebo with screens or a spa gazebo. It all depends on the person who is building it. It is known to happen with DIY type people that they start to build something pretty straight forward but the end result is different from what the original plan was. They love to experiment and then of course there is all the free advice that comes along by well wishers on home projects.
Anyway building a do it yourself gazebo is not exactly rocket science and if it is a wooden gazebo then one needs to know how to handle a saw a hammer and a carpentry kit. A gazebo can be built as what its name implies a ‘gazebo’ to be used to protect one’s self from the sun. If there are plans to use it during the evenings or even spend summer nights in it then of course some sort of screening would be required. Now the screening should be such that it can be removed during the day. This can be achieved by hanging the screening like a curtain which can be drawn aside during the day and pulled closed in the evening. One will need to put zippers or buttons to ensure that mosquitoes that have a nasty habit of creeping in through the tiniest aperture do not find their way in.
If a hot bath or Jacuzzi is also to be installed in the gazebo then one has to do a lot of homework. The plumbing required to install a hot bath in a gazebo would really test the building skills of the hobbyist do it yourself person.
First one has to decide the size and then the type of gazebo that is to be constructed. The material that used to construct the gazebo can be wooden, bamboo, poly vinyl, iron or aluminum. The wooden gazebo would be the most difficult to build as to build this requires a great deal of skill. The wood has to be cut just right as all the pieces have to fit. Each part should be clearly marked before construction starts and one should take on the assembly in stages. So that if anything goes wrong one can correct it.
The base of the gazebo is constructed first and then the side frames. It is a good idea to do a mock build up of the roof frame on the ground before hauling it up and discovering that the wrong pieces have been hauled up.
Now the DIY plans could be rudimentary or detailed so do know what level of detail one wants the plans to be and then only get that. Over sufficient is always helpful as it reduces ones chances of making a mess of the project. However plans that are too complicated can leave one frothing at the mouth also. Plans which are incorrect or incomplete can drive even the best of the DIY people into a rage. There is nothing more frustrating then discovering after some time that one is on the wrong track and their effort has been wasted.
The roof of a gazebo can be a double roof with ventilation or a trap over a frame or a completely wooden slated roof. Of course constructing the wooden or thatched or even a bamboo roof requires a lot of careful work but this extra effort does pay off in the end.
