Compost Bins

The easiest way of making compost is digging a pit and making compost. But everyone does not have the luxury of spare space for this. Here one question we can raise is; how to build your own compost bin. One can quite easily make ones own composite bin. All what is required is a good quality durable plastic drum. One will need to make some vents in the sides so that air can flow in and out of the bin and make a small door at the bottom of the bin so that one can take the ready compost out of the bin. A pitch fork is required to keep mixing the mulch so that it has an even mix. This activity can be done once a fortnight.

One can also use an old whiskey barrel to make a compost bin. All one needs to remember is that a compost bin needs a lid from where one can put the contents into the bin. The other point to remember is that there should be sufficient ventilation as compost does require free air flow. The third is that there should be some means at the bottom of the container from which the ready compost can be removed and used. Bear in mind that making compost is a year round affair and where as the process may slow down in the winters but it never stops.

Anyone who has a whiskey barrel lying around can put it to good use by making it a compost bin. Making your own compost bin does not require any fancy engineering and there are plans and material that one can order or purchase to make a compost barrel.

A number of garden goods suppliers do have construction designs that one can purchase and build a compost bin. A compost bin can be made by just putting up some plain fencing to mark the composite bin area using wood and cedar wood if available that is a very good choice however brick and mortar can also be used. Metal compost bins can also be made and an old fuel barrel could be converted to a compost bin.

If one does not want to add to the tons of waste that one throws out as trash and wants to help in the recycling effort it is not very difficult to build or get a compost bin and contribute to making the world a better place.
